Chapter 49
"Impossible. You're lying."
I couldn't accept the truth. Even though I had suspected my dad's fate that night, I refused to believe that he was truly dead.
"Tyler, you're lying, right? My dad's not dead. You're just playing a joke on me, right?"
"I wish it were a joke."
Tyler took a deep breath, his face full of sorrow, then told me what he had done that night.
After I left his house that afternoon, he couldn't shake the feeling that something was wrong and that something bad was going to happen.
So, he called Carl, the guy in the black shirt, and asked him to ride out to Stonebrook that night to check on us. On the way, Carl found me running away and rescued me.
After he brought me back, Tyler immediately rushed me to a private clinic, and the next day, he had Carl go back to Stonebrook to find out what happened to my dad.
That was when he heard that a fire broke out at my house that night in the village. According to the villagers, my dad had died in that fire.
