Chapter 63
Third Person POV
Even over the phone, Leonard could feel the pressure in Kevin's voice. Cold sweat kept breaking out on his forehead, and his heart was pounding like crazy.
"Kev, those two know Levi from Rust Creek. They ran into his pool hall, and we got blocked."
"Levi?"
Kevin's tone sank even lower. "I told you to catch them at Crystal Heights. How the hell did you end up at Levi's pool hall?"
"This… Uh…"
"Leonard, you'd better tell me the truth. I can't stand being lied to."
Leonard's face went completely pale. He'd wanted to blame everything on Levi and slide past his own screw-up, but Kevin saw right through him.
"Sorry, Kev, I screwed up," Leonard immediately said. "We did corner them at Crystal Heights, but I didn't expect one of them to be that tough. My men couldn't stop him, and they got away."
"Oh."
Kevin gave that one short response and then went silent.
