Tristan retorted, "Shouldn't you know whether I'm weak or not—"
Almost without thinking, Genevieve shot out a hand and covered his mouth.
"Shut up!" she snapped, flustered and furious, the tips of her ears burning red in an instant.
Was he out of his mind? How could he say something like that there?
She had moved too fast and hadn't held back. Before she could stop herself, she leaned closer, closing the last bit of space between them. Her face was nearly pressed to his, her warm palm tight against his cool lips.
Time seemed to stretch. Genevieve could clearly smell the crisp cedar on him, the scent curling around her until there was no way to escape it.
Only after a long beat did she snap back to herself. She yanked her hand away and turned her face aside, embarrassed and rattled.
Tristan didn't say another word. He only watched the flush creep along her ear, his gaze deepening, the corner of his mouth lifting without him even realizing it.
