Chapter 13
James's words left the spacious elevator silent. The four people inside showed different expressions.
Wendy said nothing. Instead, Jenna let out a dry chuckle, then spoke up in a seemingly good-natured attempt to ease the tension. "James, you shouldn't say that. After all, Ethan is Wendy's child. Even if she's determined to go through with the divorce, that doesn't erase her role as a mother."
On the surface, her words sounded like she was defending Wendy. But in truth, she was subtly highlighting Wendy's stubbornness.
As expected, James's gaze darkened further. "She may not even want to be his mother."
With just a few sentences, all the blame was conveniently shifted onto Wendy's shoulders.
Wendy finally couldn't hold back. She remarked calmly, "Whether I'm Ethan's mother or not, it's not for you to decide. But as for the one who's desperately throwing herself into the role… that, you can speak on."
