Wendy spoke cold, harsh words, cutting straight through Mary's defenses. "What the hell are you talking about?" Mary snapped, her eyebrows knitting together. "I'm your mother. You don't get to put words in my mouth." Wendy closed her eyes briefly, then pulled Mary toward the elevator without saying another word. "Let go of me! Where are you taking me?" Mary eyed her with suspicion. "If you're fine having this conversation here, then we can stay. But if not, let's go." Wendy came to a halt and turned back just in time to catch the flicker of hesitation in Mary's expression. "I'm your mother, and this is how you speak to me?" Mary muttered. "Fine.
