Ethan’s POV
I sat at my desk, staring at the pile of paperwork in front of me, but the words blurred together. My mind was somewhere else. No, someone else.
Katelyn.
I leaned back in my chair, running a hand through my hair. I couldn’t shake the image of her walking out of that hospital room with Cayden, her head held high, like she had never needed me in the first place.
She had changed so much.
I never thought I’d see her like that—so confident, so distant. She used to look at me like I was her whole world. But now… now it was like I didn’t exist.
A knock at the door pulled me from my thoughts. One of the officers from the police station stepped inside, his face serious.
“Mr. Ward,” he said, nodding politely. “We’ve got an update on Katelyn’s case.”
I straightened immediately, my heart pounding in my chest. “Did you find the person who attacked her?”
