"What did you say?" The siren Aurora stared at me, her silver eyes narrowing into sharp slits, her pearl crown glinting coldly under the banquet hall’s glowing coral lights. "Why are you here alone? Where is my brother—Hagrid?" Her voice was sharp, laced with suspicion, as she took a step closer, the hem of her sea-silk gown swirling like dark water around her ankles.
"Do you mean Hagrid?" I deliberately plucked a loose strand of hair behind my shoulders, my fingers brushing my neck in a feigned fluster, forcing a bashful smile. "We just did a little warm-up exercise, if you know what I mean!" I giggled softly, letting my eyes drift toward the door as if lost in memory. "My fiancé is probably still resting—he worked so hard, after all! Oh! Oh my god! He is really strong—far stronger than I ever imagined." I bit my lower lip, playing up the act of a woman smitten, hoping to lull her guard.
