From somewhere to her side, Silas caught part of Bethany's phone call. "Well, well. Not being a pushover today, huh?"
Bethany bristled. "Mr. Brennan, do you always eavesdrop on my calls?"
Silas scoffed. "Ungrateful thing, aren't you? I shouldn't have bothered saving you that day."
Realizing she'd misspoken, Bethany immediately put on an awkward smile to smooth things over. "Mr. Brennan, if you don't like the cruise gift, I can get you something else."
Silas fixed his gaze on her and smiled. "That works. How about a pair of watches instead? A couple's set."
Bethany froze for a beat, then asked cautiously, "Do you mean two men's watches, or a man's and woman's set?"
The smile that had just appeared on Silas' face vanished at once. "The latter! Ms. Porter, I don't think I need to explain what a couple's set is, do I?"
Bethany forced a stiff smile and pressed her lips together.
