Chapter 2 An Accident

Ian had no idea that before his grandfather, Frederick Sheffield, died, he'd left behind a secret will. The will stated that if Ian and Sophia ever divorced, 80% of Sheffield Group's shares would automatically be transferred to Sophia. This was something that even Sophia herself hadn't known. A few years ago, she'd saved Frederick when he suffered a sudden medical emergency. To repay her for saving his life, Frederick had drawn up that will before his death and kept it hidden from everyone in the Sheffield family. Now, it was her only way out. She'd barely hung up when the operating room light went out. A doctor came out, his face grim. "The patient has lost too much blood. We need to keep transfusing, but the blood bank only has enough Type O blood for half of what we need. Do any family members have the same blood type?" "I'm Type O!" Sophia blurted. "I'm her sister. Take my blood." As soon as she said that, a commotion broke out behind her. Ian's voice rang out, tight with urgency. "Start Ollie's transfusion first. If anything happens to him, I'll fire every single one of you!" He rushed over, covered in blood, carrying a child in his arms. The woman next to him, sobbing so hard she looked close to passing out, was Evelyn Henderson, the mistress. The Sheffield family was the hospital's largest shareholder. Once Ian gave an order, no one dared to push back. He pulled every doctor away and ordered them into a round-the-clock rescue for the child. Even so, Sophia collapsed to the floor and begged, "Doctor, please. Save my sister. She's the only family I have!" The doctor sighed and shook his head, looking helpless. "Mrs. Sheffield, you know what happens if I go against Mr. Sheffield. My hands are tied." Sophia could only watch him leave while Rosalie lay inside, hovering between life and death. She didn't even have time to process it before several bodyguards grabbed her and dragged her over to Ian. "Take her blood. She's Type O," Ian said, his icy tone leaving no room for negotiation. For a moment, Sophia froze. She stared at the man she'd shared a bed with for seven years, and in that moment, he felt like a complete stranger. "Don't you dare! Without my consent, you'd be committing a crime!" The next second, Evelyn clutched her hands, crying helplessly. "Please, save Ollie. This is all my fault. I know I did you wrong, but I just want my son to live. He's all I have left. If anything happens to him, I won't be able to live with myself!" As it turned out, after they were taken away, Evelyn tried to jump out of the car with her son. When she failed, she fought the driver for the steering wheel, causing the car to veer off track and crash violently. The driver died on the spot. By the time Ian arrived, Evelyn's son had already lost a massive amount of blood and was unconscious. Ian pulled Evelyn into his arms and comforted her gently. "Evelyn, don't worry. I won't let anything happen to him." When he turned to Sophia, all that warmth disappeared. His eyes turned cold and vicious. "What are you standing there for? Draw her blood!" His voice wasn't loud, but it was filled with anger and intimidation. A thick needle pierced Sophia's skin and slid into her vein. She fought desperately, but she was pinned down tightly. Her blood drained fast, and her vision began to blur. "Mr. Sheffield, that's 800 milliliters already," a nurse said quietly, unable to take it anymore. "If we keep going, she'll die." Ian only glanced over, his gaze darkening with irritation. "Keep going. Don't stop until Ollie wakes up. No one stops without my permission. If it weren't for her, Ollie wouldn't have gotten into that accident. This is all her fault." Sophia lost consciousness as his words fell. She couldn't understand how, in the span of a single night, the marriage she had once been proud of had completely collapsed. She had a long nightmare, and in it, Rosalie left her, too. Sophia jolted awake to the stench of disinfectant flooding her nose. She took deep breaths, ignored the doctors and nurses trying to stop her, and ran out of the hospital room.
