Her voice still had a hoarse edge to it. On the other end, Dominic frowned when he heard it. "You've been crying?"
Louise froze, sniffled a little, then forced a smile. "No, just took a shower."
She tried to sound casual, but Dominic was far from convinced.
He had originally called to tell her he was coming back early, that they'd see each other soon. But hearing the sadness in her voice tightened his chest.
"It's the middle of the night over there, isn't it? Why aren't you asleep?"
Louise glanced at the clock on the wall. It had just gotten dark here, which meant it was indeed late over there.
