Over the next few days, just the slightest smell of fish or pork made Louise feel nauseous. One morning, Dominic handed her a glass of milk.
She sat at the table, pale as a sheet, staring at the milk like it might make her throw up.
"You don't look well lately. Maybe skip the coffee for now. Work's never-ending anyway, no need to wear yourself out over it."
Dominic assumed she'd just been overworking at the office-her pale complexion didn't seem quite right.
"Not really that busy," Louise replied, her voice distant, like her mind was somewhere else entirely. A bad feeling was creeping up inside her.
"You're looking way too pale. Let's get you to a hospital this afternoon. Maybe you caught something?" Dominic cupped her face, touching her forehead gently-it felt a bit cool to the touch.
"I'm free this afternoon. I'll go with you."
"It's fine! There's not much this morning. I'll go myself." For some reason, Louise instinctively turned down his offer.
