Chapter 11
One of the attackers eyed me lustfully, his gaze filled with malicious intent. Even though my legs were weak from the drugs they used, I gripped the small knife that had fallen out of my bag, determined not to leave Darren behind.
"Let's go! The cops are coming!" the leader barked.
The man staring at me reluctantly spat, "I'm coming for you, bitch."
As I watched them dart into the nearby woods and disappear from sight, I quickly picked up my cracked phone and dialed 911.
"Darren! Darren, are you okay?" I cried out, rushing to his side.
Darren slumped against the wall like a rag doll, his cloudy eyes fixed on where the attackers had vanished.
"You need... to go," he murmured, worried they might return.
"You're bleeding!" I exclaimed, pressing my hands firmly against his wounded abdomen. "Hang on, the ambulance is on its way," I said, my voice shaking.
As the blood seeped through my fingers, my panic heightened. Tears stung my eyes as I mumbled, "W
