After asking, the girl twisted her fingers nervously.
She was holding his salary card in her hand.
David Davies’ young face glowed under the morning light, softening the sharp lines of his jaw.
He looked at her for a while before speaking in a low voice, “Ella Richards, I’m not here to mess around. And I’m not someone who settles. The reason I want to get married is because I’ve found the one. I want to have her in my life, sooner rather than later. Spend the rest of my days with her. Does that make things clear enough?”
Ella shook her head gently, a bit stubborn, a bit silly.
David chuckled and reached out to ruffle her hair. Then he leaned in close and gave her a quick kiss on the lips, his breath lingering, hot against her skin. Then came the confession, whispered right in her ear: “I like you — no, I more than like you.”
Ella was frozen.
It took her a second before she slowly raised her hand to touch her lips.
David’s voice dropped, a little teasing, “Over the moon?”
