Chapter 5
The morning mist hadn't yet lifted as I walked alone along the forest path leading to Griffin's Council Hall.
Suddenly, an unnatural rustle came from the bushes. Before I could react, a powerful force yanked me into the shadows.
When I woke again, my wrists were raw and burning from coarse rope.
I struggled to open my eyes. Above me were the sagging rafters of a dilapidated cabin.
The scene was horrifyingly familiar. Memories flooded back – being kidnapped by these same rogues in my past life, though that had happened years later.
This premature kidnapping threw my plans into disarray. I was supposed to meet Griffin today to discuss hiring bodyguards. I never imagined they'd strike early.
"Awake?" The masked kidnapper kicked my calf, his voice dripping with malice. "One million dollars in ransom. Or wait for them to collect your corpse."
