"Beth, I was wrong—so wrong. Please, I'm begging you! I'll do whatever you want—anything!" Trystan's voice carried a desperation Bethany had never heard before.
He was willing to cast aside all pride and lower himself if it meant earning even a fraction of her forgiveness.
Bethany stared at him, tears streaming down her cheeks before she even noticed. Her heart felt like it was breaking into pieces.
"You shouldn't have lied to me," she said quietly. "Why did you do it?"
She couldn't understand. She had just resolved to forgive him, to give him another chance, and yet he had hurt her again in the worst possible way.
In the end, it seemed they were never meant to be. Their relationship was doomed from the start.
Bethany felt completely drained.
"Forget it," she added. "Let go, Trystan. I'm tired. Aren't you tired, too? Let's spare each other and live the rest of our lives peacefully. That's all I want."
