Chapter 63
Joyce Hale asked to meet with Vivienne Miller. The rich widow almost said no, claiming she was too busy. But when Joyce mentioned an "interesting proposal," Vivienne couldn't resist.
They met at a fancy restaurant downtown. Both only ordered drinks, showing this was strictly business. Vivienne sat there looking down at Joyce, not hiding her dislike.
"What do you want?" Vivienne slurred slightly, the cocktail affecting her. "I'm busy. I have a company to run. Don't waste my time."
Joyce sipped her tea calmly, keeping a polite smile. "I'm sorry to take your time, Mrs. Miller. But my daughter matters most to me. You weren't clear this morning about what you plan to do about Megan. We're worried."
"Mrs. Hale," Vivienne sighed, "I told you I'd call after making a plan. You need to wait—"
"Sorry," Joyce cut in, her voice sharp, "but you need to understand. Megan and I can't wait. We're in trouble." She leaned closer, eyes hard. "And there's only one fix we'll take—marriage."
