Chapter 129
The surgery dragged on for hours. Adam Harper, James Grant, and William Brooks all showed up. Alice saw them but was too drained to talk. She just gave them a look, and they quietly stood together by the OR door, waiting in silence.
Adam opened his mouth, wanting to comfort her, but nothing came out. Now wasn’t the time to say anything.
No one knew how long they’d been waiting when finally, the light above the OR went out.
Charles Bennett was the first to step out. He let out a long sigh, his expression finally relaxing. "He's out of danger. Lucky he had the sense to protect his head. But his arm, neck, back, ribs, and one leg are all fractured. He’s banged up pretty badly. Plus, there’s a fever and infection… a bit of pneumonia too. His rib missed puncturing his lung by just two millimeters. He's really lucky. Now he just needs plenty of rest."
"Thank you. Thank you, Dr. Bennett." Alice’s eyes were full of genuine gratitude. "When can I see him?"
