CHAPTER EIGHT: PILLOW TALKS
GEORGE
"George, I can't sleep!"
She half-yelled, and I smiled, enjoying the drama. She had expected that I would sleep on the couch or on the floor and leave the bed to her, or better yet, go to another room, just like in the movies. But I have already had my own movie disappointment; one was enough.
So I insisted on staying, and she was not comfortable.
"Mae, I'm just looking out for you and the baby."
Even though it was important, I wasn't truly concerned about her sleeping at that time; I was more concerned with knowing if she was angry.
She was quiet; it could only mean anger.
I recalled her helplessness as she begged me.
"Please take the couch; that's how it is done in the movies."
She had earlier said
"I won't; it'll sprain my neck."
I refused
"You promised not to touch me; it's only the first night now, and you're already making moves to do just that."
She mumbled, but I stood my ground.
"You won't manipulate me, Mae. I am not going to touch you; you have my word."
