"I'm not Nathan. Stop talking nonsense," Nathan insisted, still trying to keep up the act.
"Fine, fine, you're not Nathan."
"Nathan, can you let me go? I'm really in pain. My arms are sore and numb."
I lifted my head at the most charming angle, tears mixing with dirt on my face, making me look pitiful.
This was exactly his weakness.
Sure enough, Nathan hesitated.
"Well…"
Nathan was just about to agree.
The next second—
"What are you doing?"
A sharp female voice rang out, followed by the clack-clack-clack of high heels.
Nathan pulled his hand back.
I lowered my face, the corners of my mouth curling into a cold smile.

The sound of her high heels echoed loudly in the empty basement, the repeating noise unsettling me.
