Flushing with guilt, Grace stammered, "Dorothea, you know how chaotic it was back there. I got pushed along by the crowd, and when I got outside, I didn't see you. I thought you and Giselle had gone ahead, so I rushed downstairs to find you, and I—"

She had no energy to argue, only letting out soft groans.
