“Your oath means nothing,” I snapped. “You failed. Again.”
I turned to the remaining warriors. “We're going back to Blue Ridge. Now.”
I started walking, not caring whether they followed or not. Shame burned every inch of my skin. I had lost—again. In front of all of them. Kaelos, Seraphina, their allies... they all watched me run like a beaten dog.
“Darius, wait!” Vesper ran after me, her hand grabbing my arm.
I jerked my arm away, glaring at her with pure rage. “Don't touch me.”
She recoiled as if I had slapped her. “I... I just wanted to help—”
“You wanted to help?” I laughed, but there was no humor in it. "You've ‘helped’ enough. Because of your ‘help,’ I lost half my warriors. Because of your ‘help,’ I look like a fool!“
