“SERA, WAIT! DON'T LIFT THAT!”
I ran across the office like a madman, nearly crashing into a desk, just to snatch the file folder—which weighed maybe half a kilogram—from Seraphina's hands.
She looked at me with an expression that was a combination of amusement and exasperation. “Kaelos, it's just a folder.”
“A heavy folder,” I insisted, placing it carefully on her desk. “You shouldn't be lifting anything heavy.”
“Kaelos, dear,” Seraphina said with patience that was clearly wearing thin, “I'm three weeks pregnant. Three weeks. I'm not fragile. I can lift a folder.”
“But the baby book says—”
“The baby book says to avoid heavy lifting,” she cut in with gentle firmness. “Heavy lifting is like furniture or heavy boxes. Not file folders that literally weigh less than a pound.”
I opened my mouth to argue, but Seraphina raised her hand, stopping me.
“And before you say anything,” she continued, "I checked with the doctor yesterday. Dr. Helena said I can continue with normal activities
