“Mama! Mama, look!”
I looked up from the report I was reading to see Alaric running toward me excitedly, carrying a rock almost as big as his head. At two years old, he should have had trouble lifting such a heavy rock—but he lifted it easily, as if it weighed no more than a pillow.
“Look, Mama! I'm strong!” he exclaimed proudly, his Kaelos-like blue eyes sparkling with excitement.
Sophia, Alaric's nanny, ran after him, panting. “Luna Seraphina, I'm sorry. He suddenly picked up that rock in the garden and ran off before I could stop him.”
I smiled, stroking Alaric's messy black hair. “It's okay, Sophia. Alaric, dear, you are very strong indeed. But we mustn't run around carrying big rocks inside the house, okay? Someone could get hurt.”
“Okay, Mama,” he replied cheerfully, carefully placing the rock down—though ‘carefully’ for a two-year-old still resulted in a loud thud on the wooden floor.
