Abbie had not expected Stefan to say that. She pressed her lips together, lowered her head shyly, and said softly, "I... I'm not in a hurry to go back. Maybe we could take a walk?"
Stefan's narrowed eyes were utterly devoid of warmth, like a bleak lake in the dead of winter. "I'm sorry. I do not have time."
Abbie looked up abruptly. Embarrassment flooded her face, and she stood there, at a loss. "I... Um... I thought you knew. Today was supposed to be a blind date."
"I didn't know," he replied coldly.
"Now you do, so we—"
Before she could finish, Stefan cut her off, his voice low and indifferent. "I'm not interested."
Abbie froze where she stood. Without sparing her another glance, Stefan walked past her and got into the car. The black Cullinan drove off into the distance.
Left standing alone in the bleak, biting wind, Abbie turned pale.
