Chapter 116: A Hope
Just as the sun began to peek over the horizon, two ordinary SUVs drew up outside the farmhouse. A wordless farewell was shared by John and Marie, a glance that conveyed dread, resolve, and an unquenchable fiery love.
John got into the rear of one of the cars, with Sarah following closely behind. Sarah's parents and the journalist Amelia, who was sitting in the passenger seat with a determined sparkle in her eyes, were in the other vehicle.
There was a strained stillness during the journey north. John would not stop reliving what had happened the night before, the picture of the downed whistleblower serving as a continual reminder of the risks involved. Having personally seen Project Mimic's cruelty, he was certain that anybody posing a danger to their dominion would be silenced without hesitation.
John had a mixture of relief and trepidation as they arrived at the remote gravel road that led to the cabin. The sanctuary they had constructed by hand, known as Haven, was breached and
