Rebecca felt as if she had just heard the funniest joke in the world. Her lips curled up into a mocking smile. Her words were laced with disdain as she asked, "Has anyone ever told you that your self-righteousness is extremely distasteful, James?
"What happened? Weren't you the one who treated marrying Penelope like a life-and-death situation and came up with all sorts of ways to be with her? You're nothing more than second-hand waste now that you're married, Mr. Heaton. What makes you think that I would forgive you?"
She tipped her head back slightly and smiled. "That's why I want you to get out of my life. Don't block my path, looking like a kicked dog."
Rebecca circled James after she was done venting, preparing to leave.
