Chapter 10
When I went into labor, the best obstetricians in Velmora were gathered in the room. Maverick insisted on being in the delivery room with me. No one could stop him.
"I'm her husband. I can't relax if I'm not here watching over her."
He wore a sterile gown and held my hand, his palm slick with sweat—he was more nervous than I was.
"Deep breaths, honey. Don't be afraid."
He was muttering prayers under his breath, his voice trembling.
I was drenched in sweat from the pain and couldn't help snapping, "Maverick, shut up! You're so loud. This hurts like hell!"
"Okay, okay, I'll be quiet. Bite me. It'll help with the pain."
He held out his arm, and I didn't hold back. I sank my teeth right in.
Finally, after three long hours, a strong, loud cry filled the delivery room.
"Congratulations, Mr. Sandler, it's a boy!"
Then, another cry followed right after.
"Another boy!"
I was completely drained and thought to myself, "Seriously? All boys?"
The last cry came a little later.
