"What are you doing?" Caroline shot him a sideways glance. "You're staying here to keep Natalie company, of course. I'll have the driver take me back."
"Alright," Jeffrey agreed.
The nanny van carried Caroline away, disappearing at the end of the road.
Instantly, Natalie's smile faded. Without even sparing Jeffrey a glance, she turned and walked back into the gallery. "You can leave, too. I'll go to the Foster residence tonight."
Her wrist was suddenly seized as Jeffrey grabbed her.
When had he ever been ignored like this, especially by Natalie? In the past, wherever he appeared, she would hurry over at once, hovering around him, attentive and concerned.
Now, there was nothing. She was cool and distant like the moon hanging in the depths of night.
"You're driving me away?" His voice sank.
"What else? Are you really planning to stay here with me?"
The thought alone was laughable. Jeffrey's time had never been meant for her.
Yet, she heard him say, "What if I insist on staying?
