Chapter 40
Natalie was caught completely off guard, almost stumbling out of the car. She twisted her ankle and couldn't keep her balance, landing hard on the wet ground. Cold rain poured over her from head to toe, and she was quickly drenched.
Natalie just sat there in the rain. She watched Jeffrey help Abigail into the front passenger seat, buckle her seatbelt, and hand her a tissue to wipe the water from her face.
Finally, he closed the car door and met Natalie's gaze.
Jefrey didn't say a word. His eyes lingered on her face for a few seconds before he turned back toward the driver's seat. He put away the umbrella and got in.
So, he had no intention of letting Natalie back into the car.
Not only had he yanked her out of the front seat to put Abigail there, but he also didn't let her sit in the back. He just left her there.
It was late in the night, and the rain was pouring down hard. The Foster residence was all the way out in the quiet suburban outskirts.
