James' lips curved up into a faint smile.
The group had been engrossed in their discussion when Abigail's voice broke through, drawing everyone's attention. Conversations halted as heads turned.
James rose from his seat and walked over to Abigail. Gently taking her wrist, he said, "Don't rub it. You'll make it worse."
Even before Abigail could explain, he had already figured out what was wrong.
She looked at James as he leaned closer. He focused his gaze on the stray eyelash caught beneath her lower lid. With practiced precision, he brushed it away with the pad of his finger.
For a moment, their gazes met and held. Abigail's eyes were bright and unguarded, like a pristine spring.
Time seemed to stand still until James noticed her slightly reddened eye. Without warning, he leaned in and blew softly over it.
"What are you doing?" Abigail yelped, shutting her eyes in surprise.
He flicked her forehead lightly. "Silly girl. Only you can manage to get an eyelash stuck like that."
