Chapter 144
The rain was so loud I missed parts of it, then I just blacked out completely.
Maybe it was the thunder and lightning, but I kept having nightmares. Bad ones. Stuff from my past I really didn’t want to revisit.
I dreamt about the second year after Ronald and I got married. He came back from a business trip with a crazy fever, turned out it was the flu. Not the regular kind—the kind that knocks you out flat. He was burning up at 40°C, couldn’t eat, coughing nonstop.
The doctor warned it was contagious. There was medicine, but better not to catch it—sounded like hell.
But I didn’t care. I made him porridge, boiled pear syrup to ease his cough. He was out of it most of the time, completely relying on me to take care of him.
He had a cooling patch on his forehead that needed swapping every few hours. I didn’t sleep for two nights, and finally just passed out by his bed.
He ran a high fever for two whole days. On the third day, he finally came to a little. The first thing he did? Wake me up
