My head was hazy, too worn out to catch what he was saying. Just before I passed out completely, I vaguely felt someone gently touching my neck—right where Ronald had bitten me—and then a deep, cold voice murmured, “This time, I won’t let you go…”
When I came to again, it was already daylight. The flight attendants were prepping breakfast.
I must've been really shaken up; my whole body still felt bone-tired. I didn’t even feel a hint of hunger. I took a lazy sip of water and dozed off once more.
By the time I was fully awake, the plane had landed. My phone was dead, so Jordan took me to buy a new one. I picked the latest HW model, max storage. He offered to pay, but I just swiped Ronald’s card straight up.
Jordan’s face darkened a bit. I shot him a look, not sure what he was annoyed about.
“Ronald’s rolling in cash. No need to save it for him.”
I used to think the divorce would be quick and clean, that Ronald and I would cut ties fast. Turns out, not so simple.
