Chapter 122: A Farewell Kiss
"Get lost!"
The word tore from my throat before I could stop it. I spun away from Arthur and refused to look at him. I was done. Done arguing, done letting him push me to the edge of insanity.
This man had reached the peak of shamelessness. If I said one more word to him, I was going to lose it completely. So I shut down. I buried myself in silence, crawled under the sheets, and let exhaustion drag me under.
When I opened my eyes again, the sunlight was streaming through the curtains, bright enough to sting. I blinked a few times, groggy, and turned my head. The other side of the bed was empty. Arthur was long gone.
A sigh of relief slipped from my lips.
I reached for my phone on the nightstand. Several missed calls lit up the screen, all from Zachary Ford. My stomach sank as last night's chaos came rushing back. I remembered trying to call him when Naomi and I were taken away, but he hadn't picked up. He was probably calling about that now.
I didn't call him back. The matter was over.
