Chapter 16: Confronted
I knew Arthur Sandlin owned Mega. But advertising was probably just a side hustle for him. The guy had fingers in every pie. I figured the odds of actually running into him at one of his many businesses were close to zero.
All I wanted was a chance to prove myself. My résumé was solid, my experience decent. If this had been any regular company, I would've felt confident. But this was Mega. Their hiring standards were insane.
The interview flew by in a blur. When I walked out, the sun felt a little too bright. I kept replaying every question, every answer. I wasn't sure if I crushed it or tanked it. All I could do was wait.
I stepped onto the sidewalk, still going over it in my head. Then a car horn blared behind me, sharp and irritating.
I frowned, not in the mood.
"Serena Cole."
That voice. It hit me like ice water.
I didn't turn around. I kept walking, faster this time.
"Serena, stop."
