Chapter 19: Discovered

Arthur was clearly done with Melanie Shaw, and honestly, I couldn't blame him. A man with that much power and pride? Of course he wouldn't tolerate betrayal. And maybe, just maybe, I got it. After all, I hadn't been able to forgive Julian Shepherd when he cheated on me either. Even if it tore me apart, I still walked away. So why wouldn't Arthur? "Arthur, please. Can't you just give me another chance?" Tears streamed down Melanie's face. She looked truly heartbroken. But after overhearing everything, knowing what she'd done, I couldn't feel sorry for her. She'd made her choice. "Get lost! Before I change my mind!" His tone was ice-cold now. The kind that made people flinch. Melanie's body visibly shook at his words. She didn't argue anymore. Just turned and left, crying silently as she disappeared into the dark. That should've been the end of it. I turned back toward my beer, pretending I hadn't seen a thing. But I wasn't subtle enough.
