Chapter 24: I Got the Job
"I'm leaving."
I didn't wait for a response from Arthur. I pushed open the passenger door and stepped out. He just sat there, frowning at me, silent as ever. The moment I shut the door, he hit the gas and took off without another word.
What a gentleman.
But I didn't care. From this moment on, Arthur and I were done. Over. If I saw him again, I'd walk right past like I didn't even know his name.
A few blocks later, I caught a cab back to Naomi's place. It wasn't until I was halfway there that I realized I was still wearing his jacket. I'd meant to give it back, but I didn't even have his number.
Oh well. He was a CEO. He could afford to lose a jacket or two.
When I got back, Naomi had just come home too. One look at my rumpled clothes and the men's blazer on my shoulders, and she narrowed her eyes like a hawk.
"Serena. Spill. Who were you with tonight?"
Her gaze dropped straight to the marks on my neck like a heat-seeking missile. I pulled the jacket tighter out of instinct.
