Chapter 57: Endless Blind Dates
He sat straight up in bed, his eyes locked on mine, voice sharp and accusing.
I quickly looked away. I didn't know why, but
every time I faced his gaze like that, my heart would start racing. It felt like I was being caught doing something wrong.
"I know. But I'm not getting any younger. My family keeps pushing me to find a boyfriend and settle down. My parents are getting older, and I don't want them to keep worrying about me."
I thought about my parents' constant phone calls, always asking if I had met someone yet. Even if I didn't have anyone I liked, I didn't want to let them down anymore.
Arthur didn't say anything. He just stared at me with a look I couldn't read.
"You can look for a boyfriend. But until you find one, our arrangement stays the same."
His words made my chest tighten. I wanted to say no, but nothing came out. I had taken his thirty thousand dollars. Walking away now would feel like breaking a deal.
"Then it's settled. As soon as I find someone, this ends."
