The number on the receipt almost made me choke. Five thousand nine hundred and ninety-nine dollars. For a single dress.
It wasn't just a dress. It was a month of my life stitched into fabric. My entire paycheck, gone in the shape of a fitted bodice and a hemline.
I glanced at Arthur, my face tight with regret. It wasn't that I couldn't pay for it. I just couldn't stomach spending my entire month's salary on one piece of clothing.
