Chapter 83: Arthur the Saboteur
Arthur’s cold attitude had already gotten under my skin, so I decided to push back. I smiled and gladly accepted the steak Zachary offered me.
Arthur stayed silent, but the temperature around him seemed to drop another few degrees.
“Looks like all the seats are taken. I’ll just join your table. Saves me from looking for another spot.”
Before I could react, Arthur slid into the chair beside me. His nearness made my skin prickle with tension.
I hated how close he was, especially now. And judging by the faint crease in Zachary’s brow, he noticed too. He didn’t say anything, but no man likes having his date interrupted.
I kept my eyes down, ignoring Arthur completely. Talking to him would only make this worse. All I wanted was to finish eating and get out.
“Serena, did you get the flowers I sent you today? Did you like them?”
Halfway through the meal, Zachary suddenly asked, his voice warm and gentle.
My smile froze. I had received them. But Arthur had ordered me to toss them in the trash.
