Something suddenly clicked in his mind. He frowned, sat up, and blurted out, "How would he even know that kind of detail?"
"Huh?" Cody Phillips looked at him, totally lost. "What are you talking about?"
"When Grandpa died, Carl Campbell was overseas. He didn’t come back for almost two years. So how the hell did he know my mom poisoned him?"
That sent a chill down Cody’s spine too. He straightened up instinctively. "You think he’s got someone planted in the old house?"
James Bennett turned his head to look at Cody. "That’s the only thing that makes sense."
I mean, it’s not like Carl had some kind of super-hearing or spy satellite.
"Think there's anyone suspicious? They’d have to check one box—they were working at the old house during those couple of years."
Whether they were close with Evelyn Williams or not didn’t matter. The maids in charge of cleaning saw more than anyone else. And Evelyn’s hatred toward Maria Lewis was basically public knowledge in that place.
