They made their way to the VIP ward at Anwen Hospital. A new doctor checked Daniel Lewis and confirmed everything was fine before signaling the nurse to hook up the monitoring equipment. An older nurse stepped out and reminded Maria Lewis, “He needs rest. Until he’s fully awake, don’t let anyone in to visit.” Maria nodded quickly, looking all obedient. “Got it!” As the nurses filed out, she fought the urge to rush in and instead stood on tiptoe to sneak a look through the window. James Bennett gently patted her back. “Stop staring. The medical team’s got him covered.” They sat down on a bench outside the room. Maria looked tense, her thoughts clearly miles away. James glanced at her. “Daniel’s okay now. What's with the long face?” “I don’t know,” she mumbled, brows drawn tight. Her fingers twisted the hem of her shirt. “Just got this weird feeling.
