Chapter 49
The room fell into silence.
Hazel's mind raced with a million thoughts, unsure of what to say.
Lucas asked, "Shall we sit down and talk?"
Hazel realized she didn't belong here. "I'll find another table."
Miranda nodded. There was a flicker of anger inside of her, but more so, there was a sense of powerlessness. She had expected the divorce to go smoothly, but complications kept arising.
Miranda took the seat across from Lucas. He passed her a menu. "Let's eat while we talk. You might not be hungry, but I am."
Miranda had no appetite. She randomly picked two dishes and handed the menu back.
Lucas looked through it, added a few more items on his own, then circled a section with his finger and told the waiter, "These are for the kid. Please move them to another table."
"Of course, sir."
Lucas patted Jake's back gently. "Go pick a table you like."
Jake hesitated for a moment. He wanted to sit beside Miranda, but since they had something serious to discuss, he reluctantly chose a
