Lucas managed to find a way out for the kids at the end of April. He was in a rush that day, and when he took the kids, I wanted to tag along. Lucas shot that down. He probably figured I would just get in the way, or worse, try to drag them back home.
I got his point, so I let them go.
I watched them disappear into the distance, taking a deep breath. This goodbye felt like it might last forever. Who knew what the future held for those two?
I never worried about Lucas hurting those kids. He was torn up over Rachel's passing, and that guilt was probably why he did not put up a fight when I said the kids should go. If he really wanted to use them to make me stay, he would not have let them out of his sight.
Deep down, I think Lucas wanted them to have the kind of bright future he never did.
