#Chapter 15: Mom
Mia's POV
A surge of panic coursed through me as I got off the phone and went to go find Albert.
“What's wrong?”
“It's my mom. I think she might know….”
Albert, his expression unreadable, simply nodded. "Go get changed," he said, his voice devoid of its usual smooth charm. "I'll drive you."
Relief washed over me, momentary but potent. I hurried to change, a jumble of emotions warred within me. Relief at having a ride, worry about my mother, and a gnawing fear of what might be waiting for me at the hospital.
The drive to the hospital was shrouded in a tense silence. I fidgeted in her seat, stealing glances at Albert's stoic profile. He didn't ask any questions, but the concern etched on his features spoke volumes.
Despite the guilt that gnawed at my conscience, I couldn't regret taking the money. It had saved my mom and me, and that was all that mattered. But the thought of her disappointment, the potential fracturing of our relationship, sent a fresh wave of unease washin
