Julian didn't wake up until five.
The office was already warm and cozy, and someone had thoughtfully covered him with a light blanket.
There was a gentle heat radiating from his stomach.
His eyes flew open, sharp and alert for a moment.
But the second he saw Evelyn beneath him, all the tension vanished from his face.
Memories of earlier events flickered in his mind.
He looked down—her hand was still resting on his stomach, loosely held in his larger one.
A faint smile tugged at his lips.
"You're awake."
Evelyn noticed the shift right away, still flipping through the documents in her hand.
She set the file aside, leaned closer, and gently touched Julian's forehead with her hand, finally letting out a breath. "The fever's gone."
Thank god.
Otherwise, she really would've had to drag Steven over to help haul Julian to the hospital.
But he'd been so out of it… she just couldn't bring herself to wake him.
Stuck in the same position for too long, her limbs had gone numb.
She winced.
