After leaving the hotel, Evelyn could clearly sense Julian's mood.
Yeah, he was still pissed.
She glanced at him, then quietly slipped her hand over the back of his. When he turned to look, she gave him a little smile. "Still mad at me?"
Julian pressed his lips into a tight line, staying silent.
Truth was, he was a bit upset—because of what she'd done earlier, jumping in to deal with Nathaniel without thinking about her own safety.
Sure, logically he knew Nathaniel probably couldn't hurt her. But the memory of that scene? It still made his heart clench. The fear that something could've gone wrong—that was real.
Evelyn watched his expression closely, then lightly scratched the back of his hand with her fingertip, almost playfully.
She smiled again, soft and sweet. "Come on, don't be mad, okay?"
"If you want, I'll help you get back at him. Give Nathaniel a serious reality check."
Her gentle tone and teasing finally chipped away at Julian's icy front.
