Chapter 22
When Evelyn got back to the old house, Charles was out in the garden, casually trimming his plants.
"You're back," he said, holding a pair of scissors in one hand. He glanced at her briefly before focusing again on the bush in front of him.
Evelyn walked over with a smile. "Grandpa," she called sweetly, gently hooking her arm through his.
Just then, her gaze landed on the middle-aged woman sitting not far away.
It was her aunt, Hannah Knight.
Hannah was dressed neatly in a dark green, fitted dress, her long hair styled up, makeup flawless like always.
The smile on Evelyn's face slipped a little, and she gave a cold nod. "Auntie."
She had never liked Hannah. Basically, anytime Hannah was around, the atmosphere turned terrible.
Instead of marrying out, Hannah had brought in a live-in husband—Jonah Reed—and the couple lived in the Knight house ever since.
Charles had three kids: George, Hannah, and Thomas.
Other than Evelyn, George had a son and a daughter—Emily and Felix.
