"Not bad, you're quite the actor," Evelyn teased casually.
Julian accepted the praise without a shred of guilt. "Thanks for the compliment."
His nonchalant reply made Evelyn chuckle despite herself.
After dinner, she glanced at the time—it was almost seven.
Julian settled the bill, then walked over to her. "Got any plans later?"
She turned to look at him, slightly puzzled. "Why? You planning something?"
Checking his watch, Julian gave her a faint, knowing smile. "If you're free, I wanna take you somewhere."
His deep voice carried a subtle hint of mystery that quickly piqued Evelyn's curiosity, even though she was considering turning him down.
In the end, curiosity won. She nodded and followed Julian to his car.
Julian drove them to a bar.
Evelyn wasn't a fan of loud, rowdy places like this. If she had to go, she'd pick a quiet lounge over this kind of scene any day.
She looked up at the neon sign: "Jade Rabbit's Still."
Weird name, she thought, but kind of fun.
