The truth had been staring me in the face, yet I hadn’t wanted to believe it.
The bond between Maxine and me was severed, or at least severely weakened. No matter how hard I tried to reach her through the link that had always connected us, there was no response. My heart felt heavy, the silence between us an unfamiliar and unwelcome void.
Wolves and werewolves were supposed to be inseparable. Our connection was meant to be stronger than any mind link, an eternal bond unbroken unless the wolf was lost forever. Yet, here we were—two distinct entities, no longer intertwined as we once were.
