Chapter 79
Having known Ambrose for years, Lorraine could tell that he sounded concerned rather than accusatory even without seeing the look on his face.
"The doctor asked you to stay longer, but you won't listen. Roxanne, don't ever do anything that dangerous again. What would I do if something happened to you?"
Ambrose's voice was filled with concern. It was a tone Lorraine had never heard in either of her lives.
"Didn't I do this for you? She put your mother in jail and humiliated you repeatedly. I begged her not to, but she refused to let Mrs. Gale go. I had no choice but to risk it. I thought I could use this to blackmail her to at least get Mrs. Gale out."
Roxanne sniffled, her voice quivering with emotion.
How noble of her! She had risked her life, almost getting crushed by a car, all for her beloved's mother.
If Lorraine hadn't actually been there, she might have believed it.
Roxanne had never begged Lorraine to let Eleanor go. Yet she had poor Ambrose completely fooled.
